3. GAME TIMES: Games at all lighted fields will start at 5:45,
7:15 & 8:45 and
only the first game will have a 15 minute grace period. If a team has 10 players there at game time, the game will start on
time.
a. All games will be no more than 90 minutes long. Any game using the grace period will be no more than 75 minutes
long.
b. If, in the umpire’s judgment, an inning cannot be completed within the allotted time, that inning will
not be played.

games are not on a time limit.
4. LINE-UP CARD: Will consist of 4 females and 6 males. Female must
be in the 1st, 3rd, 6th and 9th position on the line-up card. If you do not have
4 females by the time the game starts, that game will be a forfeit (7-0). 2 females must play in the infield, and 2 must play
in the outfield.
a. A game may start with 9 players as long as 4 females are playing. The 10th person in the line-up will
be declared out every time until an additional player fills the empty spot.
5. PLAYOFF ELIGIBILITY: Players must play in at least 2 regular season
games to be eligible to participate in the playoffs.
6. STARTING PLAYERS: May re-enter the game only once in the same place
in the batting order.
7. WALKS: When a male player is walked with less than 2 outs and the
next player is a female, that male goes to 2nd base and the female is required to hit. When a male player is walked
with 2 outs and the next player is a female, the male goes to 2nd base and the female has the choice to walk or
hit.
8. RUN RULE: A 12-Run Rule will be in effect for all regular season
and playoff games. Any team ahead by 12 at the end of 5 innings or 20 at the end of the 4th inning will be declared
the winner and the game will end.
9. HOME RUNS: A team may earn no more than 3 home runs per game. Any
more than that will be declared an out.
10. UNIFORMS: Players must have matching shirts or jerseys. Shirts
must have a number on the back. Caps
are optional, but if worn must be worn correctly. Shoes with metal spikes are not allowed.
a. Anyone caught wearing metal spikes will be ejected from the game.
11. AGE: Players must be 18 by the start of the season.
12. HOME TEAM: Home team is responsible for keeping the official scorebook, putting the bases in at all fields and
removing them at the end of the game. Home team uses the first base dugout.
13. CANCELLATION: One person should call the cancellation line and relay cancellations to their team. The cancellation line is 756-8130.
a. If it rains in the morning and is sunny all afternoon, don’t take it for granted that the game will occur.
Please call the cancellation number.
b. Cancelled games will be rescheduled as much as possible. Rescheduled games will be added to the end of the regular
season schedule.
14. INCOMPLETE GAMES: If a game in progress gets rained out, the game will be re-started from the exact point where
it was cancelled – the same inning, number of runs and outs, and the same runners on base.
a. You do NOT have to have the same people there when the game is resumed.
15. UNSPORTSMANLIKE CONDUCT:
a. THE “F” WORD: Any team member who uses this word will be immediately ejected from the game.
i. If this occurs a second time with the same player, that player will be suspended for 2 games.
b. If a player is removed from the game for unsportsmanlike conduct, that player will receive a verbal warning from
the League Coordinators through the team manager.
i. If the player is removed a second time, he will be suspended for 2 games.
ii. If the player is removed a third time, that player will be suspended from league play for 1 year from the date
of the 3rd offense.
c. Any player who willfully strikes, shoves, bumps, grabs, or runs into an umpire will be suspended from the league
for at least 1 full year depending on the severity of the incident. All disciplined are subject to ASA suspension according
to ASA rules and regulations.
16. CONTROLLED SUBSTANCES: Absolutely no drinking or drugging is allowed in any facilities rented from the City of
Portland. Any team member found drinking or drugging will
be suspended. In addition, Portland facilities are tobacco-free,
so please do not smoke during practice or games.
17. PROTESTS: All protests must be written and submitted to the League Coordinators no later than 24 hours after the
conclusion of the protested game. All ASA rules must be followed in order for a protest to be considered valid. League Coordinators
will make the final decision on all protests.
a. If the protest is about a player, the protest must be submitted 24 hours after the game has been completed.
b. If you’re in doubt about a player or umpire ruling, please put the game under protest immediately with
the umpire and go on and finish the game. Make sure to note where you are in the game so it can be re-started if needed.
c. If the protest is upheld, we will continue from that point.
18. GENDER: The League Coordinators must be informed prior to the start of the season of any players involved in a
gender change. If this occurs, the intent to play as a male or female must be established at this time. No changes may be
made after rosters are turned in.
19. TIES: If a game is tied after 7 innings, start every ½ inning with a runner on 2nd base. The runner
on base should be the last runner up to bat. Games should go no more than 9 innings to determine the winner. Games tied after
9 innings will be declared a tie. In CO-ED, the next team’s 90-minutes will begin when the tied game has ended.
20. OBSTRUCTION: Defined as: A) Not in possession of the ball, B) Not in the act of fielding the batter ball, which
impedes the progress of a batter-runner or runner who is legally running the bases.
a. If a defensive person is blocking the base or the base path without the ball, this is impeding the progress of
the runner and is considered obstruction.
b. This year, the rule is that you must catch the ball, block the base, and make the tag. The rule is listed in
the ASA handbook on pg. 149.
c. An unintentional collision is not obstruction and this is an umpire judgment call.
21. INJURIES: If a person is injured on the field, whether female or male, you may play with 9 players but cannot
play with less than 9.
a. If a female is injured, you may play with 1 infield, 2 outfield or 2 infield, 1 outfield – but ONLY in
the case of an injury.
b. An injured player will be called out when it is his or her turn at bat.
22. PLAYOFF RULES:
a. Home Team advantage is given to the team with the best regular season record.
i. If a tie exists, home team advantage will be given to the team that gave up the least amount of runs during the
team head to head competition.
b. Players must play in at least 2 regular season games to be eligible to participate in the playoffs.
c. Playoff protests must be reported to League Coordinators after the game has been played. Also, the umpire must
be notified of the protest before the game is completed.

the ASA handbook.
